Small Group Covenants

Some small groups find the setting of a covenant as a helpful way of setting goals together and maintaining a degree of accountability to each other. A covenant is a set of agreed guidelines, principles or goals that are agreed on by all the members for a set period of time (usually for 6 or 12 months). A covenant is especially helpful in helping the group evaluate how the group is going and whether particular aspects of the groups life together needs to be giving more attention. Each group member should give assent to the covenant and should be given a copy. Some people view covenants as being "too legalistic" or confining but in discussing this with your small group the benefits of growing together in discipleship and accountability should be emphasised.
